As the food is 100% natural and there are no additives it is fine to freeze and then later defrost the products after they have been packed in an airtight container. Please ensure that you exclude as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn. Defrost ONLY in your refrigerator or microwave and consume this product immediately after it is defrosted. Although this product can be frozen, Rafferty’s must emphasise that as this is a fresh, natural product; that is best served from the packet or within 48 hours from opening.
The packaging used for Rafferty’s Garden products are made to the strictest standards to comply with ALL global packaging regulations and have been printed with Toluene free inks, Aliphatic (not aromatic) adhesives and also the inside of the packaging is made from Food contact approved Cast Poly Propylene (CPP). Polypropylene does not contain BPA and is considered a very safe plastic and is often used for flexible packaging. The fact that the pouch is made from many layers of material for strength, puncture resistance and printability (on the outside) means that it must be designated the number ‘7’ code the same as many other non recyclable plastics including BPA containing polycarbonates.
The PIABC plastics recycling codes are used to help consumers identify which plastics they can place in their recycling bin as many councils differ in what plastics they would be able accept. Until recently most councils only accepted plastics 1-4. Any material that is not recyclable or is made up of more than one type of plastic is designated the code “7” because currently the technology does not exist to either separate the multiple components or recycle the type of plastic the product is made from. Therefore there are many examples of products with the designation of “7” or “OTHER”.
It should be fine to take Rafferty’s Garden overseas as long as all the seals are in place, it is stored in the plane luggage, and is declared upon arrival.
You may want to check with your airline to ensure you can take it on with your own hand luggage (As hand luggage security is getting tighter).
